Set it so that it's sending keepalives every 30 seconds.

Something like this:

net.ipv4.tcp_keepalive_time = 30
net.ipv4.tcp_keepalive_probes = 10
net.ipv4.tcp_keepalive_intvl = 30

What version of slony are you using?  You may need to specifically enabled keepalive.
