I've been playing with 9.1 and slony 2.1.0 betas. Without digging into the code again (I can if you want) there are two places where it checks the server version number (major.minor in the form of 90100 I think) but treats anything above 90000 as unsupported and goes for 8.4 support... which doesn't work. I manually changed those points to be 90100 and it worked like charm.
