Turn on logging and see what's going on. I notice slowness sometimes. The best I've been able to ascertain is that the FETCH on the origin is taking a long time, or that the COMMIT on the replica is taking a long time. I'm betting that's due to the fsync() on the WAL file. It is such a fast moving target that it is very hard to detect exactly what is making it slow. It happens to my application as well, not just slony, so I don't think it is a slony specific issue.
