Solaris users should probably use a 3rd party package management system
like Pkgsrc[.org] to avoid these problems. In FBSD, Ports shows:

predaking# cd /usr/ports/databases/postgresql81-client
predaking# make fetch
=> postgresql-base-8.1.2.tar.bz2 doesn't seem to exist in
/usr/ports/distfiles/postgresql.
=> Attempting to fetch from
ftp://ftp3.us.postgresql.org/pub/postgresql/source/v8.1.2/.
postgresql-base-8.1.2.tar.bz2                 100% of 7853 kB  319 kBps
00m00s
=> postgresql-opt-8.1.2.tar.bz2 doesn't seem to exist in
/usr/ports/distfiles/postgresql.
=> Attempting to fetch from
ftp://ftp3.us.postgresql.org/pub/postgresql/source/v8.1.2/.
postgresql-opt-8.1.2.tar.bz2                  100% of  140 kB  319 kBps

root at blackout:/usr/local/etc/raddb-vpn# ls -al postgresql-*

-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 8042367 Jan 5 23:11 postgresql-base-8.1.2.tar.bz2

-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 143541 Jan 5 23:11 postgresql-opt-8.1.2.tar.bz2

...Those are the two files in question. Let us know.

I'm using the file postgresql-base-8.1.2.tar.gz which I've downloaded from the PostgreSQL main website. Do I maybe need any other source files ? Or is that a case where I need to decompress this file with GNU tar and not Solaris tar ?
