I'd be interested to see a proof that it actually works.   If you're
calling the functions to re-enable the table for replication, you are
in fact getting locks anyway, although perhaps not as aggressive as
you might otherwise get.  If you're _not_ calling those functions,
then your approach is broken, and will eventually cause you some
pain.
