If a transaction remains open for a long time, that will cause replication
processes to back up.

This is documented in the FAQ:
http://www.slony.info/documentation/faq.html#AEN7300

This isn't something we can resolve in Slony-I - it is likely to represent an
external problem in your environment.  We can't determine why you'd have a
long-running transaction, and certainly can't resolve it.
